Two calves born in unusual season.
Young generation have appeared unexpectedly in
Prioksko-Terrasny reserve: a calf was born at the end of October and another one in November.
It was unexpected because usually bisons are born from April to August so that young animals have about half a year to grow and prepare for the winter season. It is uncertain if the new-born bisons will survive this winter, they have to get a lot of milk to grow strong.
According to the reserve's staff the unexpected births are due to good keeping conditions of animals, plenty of food and vitamins so that animals have larger period of rut.
Now there are about 34 bisons in the reserve, about ten animals have passed to Kaluzhskie Zaseki reserve recently.
